What happens when you run a Nvidia and AMD Radeon Video card on the same PC?

So im building a new rig. I am going to use it for Animation such as Maya, 3DS Max, and CS5. My bros a gamer and wants to Run BF3 and Skyrim on all highest settings. So im getting a AMD Radeon 6870 and a Nvidia Quadro PNY 600. Will this work in a non SLI setup. Im assuming it will work but have driver issues.

Specs:

Mobo: Asus P8Z68 Deluxe Gen 3

CPU:Intel Core I-7 2600k/2700k

GPU:___________________

PSU:___________________

Case: Cooler-Master HAF 932/942X

HDD: 1.5 TB WB 7200RPM SATA III Hard drive|||Sadly there isn't an easy way to switch or disable graphics cards. If it were just for someone wanting to play games and do animation then I'd say get a Radeon 6970 or GeForce 570 and let the raw GPU power make up for the lack of Quadro drivers, but that is more in favour of your brother in this situation. Even a Quadro 4000 won't be able to handle those games at the highest settings though.|||"Will this work in a non SLI setup. " - No, it will not work.|||Both will not work. you could only use on at a time. I would get dual HD Radeon 6870s and put them in crossfire.
