Hello, I have a Compaq Desktop CPU. It's about 3 years old now. I recently put in a brand new ATI Radeon video card into it. I had it professionally installed and now, everytime I run the computer, it restarts or the monitor will cut off. I purchased a new Monitor about a month ago. Its brand new, so there should'nt be any problems with it. Any ideas about what could be wrong with it? I've been told it may be overheating, and that the power supply isn't enough or it's broken. I'm at lost of what to do with it now. Can anyone help me out with this?|||Which Radeon card did you just install?
It could be a power supply problem if the computer is a few years old, the newer PCI-Express cards often require a 400W or better power supply. This happened with my Dell, I bought a replacement power supply from PC Power & Cooling.
Obviously before you look into upgrading hardware, download the lastest drivers from ATI's website and check for any issues with your model of computer. Buggy drivers will certainly cause reboots and crashes too.|||yeah the most common problem is the power supply cant keep up, with all the devices drawing power from it.
best way to test the machine is unplug the power cables from the dvd/cd drives, and try a few games u will proberly notice the game will remain stable, a new PSU is very easy to install.. i would recommend getting alteast a 500watt PSU.
as the cooling part, leave the housing off eg the case and test it.|||During the boot process you should notice an error message, this sounds like a hardware conflict. First try accessing device manager and removing the monitor from the list and rebooting. If that fails try removing the video card from the current slot in the pc and placing in a different slot.|||The power supply is more than likely not putting out enough juice to run the card reliably. The P.S.'s in store bought computers are low to begin with, and you're talking about a 3 year old desktop running a brand new video card that needs 400-500 watts of power to run and your desktop is probably running around 200-250 P.S.|||Compaq used to install modified hardware; I had the same problem with a video card on a compaq, and ended up disabling some features on the card to stop the restarts. It worked but I did miss some of those features! Take it with the pros and tell them the problem - forget the monitor, that's not the issue. They might be able to track the offending bit, irq sharing problem, memory address or accelerating feature.
BTW, ATI is (in) famous for churning drivers like hot rolls, so try first downloading the latest driver from their website. Often this simple step will solve your problems.|||power has nothing to do with it... Just take out the dam thing bring it back and get your money back where you bought it from.. Or it could be the jack *** that installed it did a crapy job and didnt check if worked or not... He probaly shuved the dam thing in so hard it flexed the MOBO and its causing it to shutdown with a short in the trace wiring....|||hi

try some simple steps to solve ur problem
1. run ur computer in safe mode . if it do not restarts it means their might be some problem in os
2. if it still restarts in safe mode try the old card once again .
3 if it does not restart ask u r hardware persone to get it replaced with a card which is compatible with u r motherboard .
